Starting off my first blog with a rather important aspect of grooming, Essential Oils for Hair – Tips for healthy, luscious hair.
Our personality is determined by the way we look. Choosing a healthy lifestyle is quite important and with that maintaining a healthy mane is equally important. Today, let’s talk about how we can make use of some essential oils to get those long, thick hair.
The six best essential oils for hair are
Essential oils are quite effective and should be a part of everyone’s daily hair care regime. One thing to take care while using these is that you do not apply these directly on your scalp as they are highly concentrated. You can mix them with some carrier oils and then apply.
So, let’s get started and talk about above mentioned essential oils one by one and how to effectively use them:
TEA- TREE ESSENTIAL OIL
Tea-tree oils are quite popular both for hair and skin and are known to be very effective. These oils strengthen and nourishes the hair roots and helps to unclog hair follicles.
USAGE: For hair growth and dry scalp treatment, mix few drops of tea tree essential oil with any carrier oil (coconut, castor, jajoba, almond oil etc.) of your choice and apply the mixture on your scalp. Rinse thoroughly with a mild, cleansing shampoo. You can also mix few drops of tea-tree oil with your shampoo for daily cleansing.

LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL
Lavender oil is known to promote hair growth, prevent hair loss and helps improve blood circulation.
USAGE: Mix few drops of lavender essential oil in 2 tbsp of extra warm virgin olive oil/coconut oil. Work this mixture into the scalp with your fingers and leave it overnight. You can also cover your head with a shower cap/towel and wash your hair in the morning. Lavender oil also relieves stress and provides restful sleep.
LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL
Lemon Essential oil is ideal for oily hair. It has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties which also helps prevent dandruff and scalp acne.
USAGE: For combating an oily scalp and dandruff, you can mix few drops of lemon essential oil with 2 tbsp of jojoba oil and massage into the scalp. Wash it off with a mild shampoo after an hour or two.
CEDARWOOD ESSENTIAL OIL:
Cedarwood essential oil is equally beneficial for both oily and dry scalp. This oil helps improve the blood circulation resulting in hair growth while its antiseptic properties help control dandruff and prevent scalp fungal problems.
USAGE: To prevent dry and flaky scalp, mix few drops of cedarwood oil in 2 tbspcoconut oil and gently message into the scalp. Leave it on for 1-2 hours and rinse off with a mild shampoo. For an oily scalp, add few drops of this oil to your shampoo and wash your hair with it.
ROSEMARY ESSENTIAL OIL
Rosemary oil has a strong minty aroma. This oil is full of antioxidants and helps prevent premature greying and thinning of hair. It’s best suited for people with oily scalp like me. Its regular use ensures thick, healthy and non-greasy hair.
USAGE: Heat 3 tbsp olive oil and add around 10 drops of rosemary oil after it has cooled down a bit. Apply this oil to your scalp and cover it with a towel dipped in hot water. Wash off with a mild shampoo after half an hour.
PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL
Peppermint oil is beneficial for people with dry scalp. It helps unclog pores and promote hair growth. It’s advisable to do a patch test before applying this oil as it is highly concentrated and can cause skin irritation.
USAGE: Mix 5 drops of this oil and lavender oil in 2 tbsp of warm coconut oil. Apply this mixture to your scalp and leave for 15-20 mins. Rinse off with a mild shampoo.
